Academy Division

About our Levels

  • Pre-Ballet * Primary * Level 1 and 2 Ballet

The Academy’s Children’s Division offers a wonderful introduction and early training program for young dancers with a focus on developing the proper ballet foundation, musicality, placement, coordination, flexibility and performance opportunities in a friendly, yet disciplined environment.

  • Level 3 and Level 4

Ballet * Character * Contemporary * Pre-Pointe * Stretch/Conditioning * Variations

Level 3 and 4 builds on the foundation students received in Level 1 and 2. In Level 3 and 4, students are exposed to additional forms of dance, and an increase in classes to allow students to enhance their training.   Students have several performance opportunities during the year, as well as being able to participate in masterclasses and our summer intensive.

  • Level 5 and 6 (Intermediate/Advanced Ages 13-Adult and Advanced Ages 13-Adult)

Ballet * Character * Contemporary * Pointe * Stretch/Conditioning * Variations

Level 5 & 6 is designed for students who are looking for serious and high quality classical ballet instruction, in a supportive and encouraging environment. All Level 5 & 6 classes are conducted by the Academy’s senior staff, who offer professional guidance, experience, and bring a wealth of knowledge to their classes. As part of the program, students may attend a full schedule of daily classes, participate in the Academy’s performances, Summer Intensive and YAGP. Level 5 and 6 are “open levels”, allowing drop-in and part-time attendance as well.  Students looking to take their training to the next level with the goal of pursuing a professional ballet career may have the opportunity to audition for the Academy’s Professional Trainee Program

  • Adult Ballet

The Academy’s adult classes are designed for adults of all ages and levels. All adult classes are taught by the Academy’s experienced staff who provide support, encouragement and explain the movements in detail. Adult students may register, or attend classes as a drop-in. Performance and master class opportunities are also available. New to our Ann Arbor location – ARCB Ann Arbor Adult Ensemble, a group specifically for adult students looking for performance opportunities, and quality training

Students should contact the front desk to make arrangements to attend a placement class. Following the class the instructor will notify each student of the best level to join. After the placement class students may register at the front desk. Students typically spend an average of 2-3 years in a level before moving to the next level. The director will inform a student when they are ready to move up, and instructors continue to evaluate students throughout the year.

Performance Opportunities

Students are eligible to participate in the Nutcracker and our full-length spring performance. To participate students should attend the audition. Weekly rehearsals are held on Fridays. Level 4 and up are required to attend twice week in order to participate in performances.
